Know Your Power - PDX Housing Network

Free tenant rights workshop, second Thursday of every month.

Free monthly tenant rights workshop. One topic in plain language, then open problem-solving on your actual situation. Portland and Oregon renters welcome.‍ ‍

How it works

Thirty minutes on one topic, in plain language, specific to Oregon law. What your lease can and can't say. What a rent increase notice has to include. What repairs your landlord actually owes you. What each kind of eviction notice means.

Then forty minutes of open floor. Bring your lease, your notice, your letter, your question. The room works on it together. Somebody else has usually had the same problem.

What we cover through the year

Your lease line by line. Rent increases. Heat, cold, and utility shutoffs. Eviction notices. Security deposits. Repairs and habitability. Screening and applications. Fair housing and discrimination. Roommates and subleases. Ending a tenancy. And how to start a tenant association.

What this is and isn't

This is tenant rights education. It is not legal advice, and we'll say so out loud every session. When something needs a lawyer, we'll point you to Oregon Law Center, Legal Aid Services of Oregon, the Fair Housing Council of Oregon, or the Community Alliance of Tenants.

Who it's for

Any renter in Oregon. WERQ TOGETHER is a trans-led nonprofit and this workshop is built with trans and gender-expansive renters in mind, but nobody is turned away. Housing is a problem people have together.
