ARRIVALS - Trans Support Group

Monthly support group for trans and gender-expansive adults new to Portland.

Moving somewhere new is a hundred small unfamiliar things at once. Which bus. Which doctor. Where people actually go. How anyone stands the rain. How you make a friend as an adult when nobody's assigning you a lab partner.

Arrivals is a monthly room for people working that out at the same time.

What it's like

A short check-in. A ten-minute topic. Then the rest is the room. The topic is a starting point, not the point. Mostly people ask each other things and somebody knows the answer.

It's peer support, which means it's run by someone who's been where you are, not by a clinician. Not therapy. Not case management. Not intake. Nobody takes notes. Nothing is recorded. There's no form and no eligibility check.

Topics through the year

Getting around. Finding a doctor and getting on OHP. Holidays away from family. Winter here. Food and groceries. Making friends as an adult. Name change and ID in Oregon. Parks and free things to do. Work and money. Neighborhoods. And in August, the one-year mark.

Who it's for

‍Trans and gender-expansive people who've been in Portland about a year or less.

If you've been here longer and still feel new, come anyway. That's more common than people admit.
