Oct 17 at Blue Lake Regional Park

Blue Lake is about 20 minutes east of Portland in Fairview, or 12 minutes from Gateway Transit Center. It's a natural lake fed from underground, sitting in the floodplain the Columbia spent millennia shaping. Covered wooden shelter, flush restrooms, accessible parking, and flat paved paths the whole way. October means geese arguing on the water and cottonwoods going yellow.

  • 11825 Southwest Wilsonville Road Wilsonville, Oregon, 97070 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Graham Oaks is in Wilsonville, about 30 minutes south, or 12 minutes from Bridgeport Transit Center. It's the easiest one to reach without a car. The SMART bus runs Saturdays, stops at the entrance, and is free. Used to be a farm, almost became a landfill, now it's 250 acres with 150,000 native plants put back in. Covered shelter with an outlet, gender-neutral restrooms right by the lot, free parking. January means bare oaks, winter birds, and hot chocolate.

  • 38263 Southwest Dixon Mill Road Gaston, Oregon, 97119 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Chehalem Ridge is out past Gaston, roughly 50 minutes from Portland or 40 from Sunset Transit Center. It's the farthest one and worth it. Former Douglas-fir tree farm being restored to oak habitat, with views across the whole Tualatin Valley. Covered shelter with a concrete floor, free parking, and a gravel access road on the way in. April means madrone bark peeling red, new oak leaves, and birds being extremely loud about it.
