Safe Haven Info Session

  • Online (Google Meet) (map)

Have a spare room in Portland?

The cheapest affordable housing in this city is already built. It’s the bedroom nobody’s using.

Safe Haven Home Share is WERQ TOGETHER’s home sharing program, and we’re one of four providers qualified under the City of Portland’s Home Sharing Pilot. Homeowners who rent a spare room through a qualified provider may be eligible for a one-time $1,500 grant from the Portland Housing Bureau. That’s not income. It’s what it costs to turn a room into a home: a lock, a bed, a dresser, a smoke detector, the repair you’ve been putting off.

This session is 90 minutes on what hosting actually involves. How matching works. What the agreement says. The money and the paperwork, plainly. What goes badly and how we handle it. Then Q&A.

You’ll leave with a one-page checklist and a clear next step. We don’t collect applications live. Nobody commits in a group.

WERQ TOGETHER is a trans-led nonprofit. Safe Haven centers trans and gender-diverse community in Portland, and every host completes the same short training. Come curious, come skeptical, come with the question you’ve been sitting on.

One thing worth knowing: the City’s pilot started in February and runs on a 12-month clock. If you’ve been thinking about this, this fall is the time to find out.

Free. Online.
