Monthly volunteer info session and onboarding, first Thursday.
Soft Landings Crew is what we call our volunteers. People arrive in Portland, and the Soft Landings Crew is who's there to meet them.
Two halves, one meeting
5:00 to 5:30, open house. For anyone curious. What WERQ TOGETHER does, what volunteers actually do day to day, what the roles are, and questions. No commitment and no pitch. Come, listen, decide later or never.
5:30 to 6:30, cohort onboarding. For people who've applied and been accepted. Agreements, systems access, expectations, and your role. You will leave with a specific first task!
The roles
Some take thirty minutes a month and no live time at all.
Cross-poster — put our monthly events on our platforms. Async.
Resource scout — research a tool or resource and write up what's useful. Async.
Chat keeper — during a session, drop links and make sure nobody's question gets scrolled past. Greeter — first fifteen minutes of a session, welcome people and help first-timers land.
Buddy room host — hold the optional breakout where people work on each other's stuff.
Facilitator — run a room.
Who this is for
Most of our volunteers came to us as community members first. If you've been in one of our rooms and thought "I could help with this," you're right.
You do not need nonprofit experience. You do not need to be trans, though this is trans-led work and we're clear about that.
